New Old Friend

Years ago, in a Relief Society meeting, I made this holiday rabbit. It is jointed and the arms and legs were attached with twine. The twine stretched, and broke, and was retied several times until the rabbit was retired to a moving box.
The joints have now been replaced with screws and neat white plastic screw caps. (You can see the cap just under the ear..) Now the rabbit's joints function better than ever and  my sweet husband mounted the shelf and drawer that contains ears in holiday fabrics for every month.
A little hokey and country... but I like him, now more than ever.

How are you decorating for March???

Blue and Gold Banquet

The big deal about the Blue and Gold Banquet is the cake contest each year. This is a birthday party after all. Celebrating another year of Cub Scouting!
This year Cameron made a chess cake. The inspiration came in the mail a couple of weeks ago when Grandma sent us candy molds. Just some items that she is no longer using. The chess mold set the wheels in motion. This was the result. Cameron was very proud of his cake.

Cameron earned the Showman, Artist and Family Member pins... Awarded to him by his Scoutmaster. But, the Religious Square Knot was awarded to him by the Bishop.
To round out the evening, Cameron guessed correctly the number of mini candy bars in the jar and was able to take home the door prize. What a great evening for Cameron.

Kitchen Crafts

I made a personnal goal to be creative and crafty every week. The last year, was spent with the initial evaluations and resulting IEPs for my kids. Stress became my companion while the activities that relieve stress took a back seat. Heck, creative me time was taking a back seat to essential activities that than occupied the back seat. The kids are in a good place now - I would like to say that ours was an unusual experience. However, parents don't seem to have an easy time, as newbies, navigating the IEP process. It is too bad.

So, even though these projects are simple, they represent the committment to myself to spend time every week in my sewing room.
The chips and tortilla warmer match my salsa bowl. Yes, I love it!
Gotta love the John Deer tractor print from my mom in law. It is perfect for the potatoe cooker.
The warmer and the food go in the microwave and come out perfect.
