February Projects

I am not sure what inspired me to look up a pattern for heart shaped hot pads... What I was looking for was a gift for the ladies I visit teach. I did find a pattern, but each attempt resulted in a lop sided heart. Finally, I made a few modifications to that pattern, including doubling the motif so you have two hearts back to back to provide real protection for your hands or table top. My version also features a lux shell lace edge that reminds me of eyelet lace.

It took a couple of tries to get the lace edge just right.  These are almost right, but the shells are stretched out too much. It is better to be generous when it comes to love and lace edges. I made 3 red ones and 3 pink. By the time I got through the 4th one, I had it just about right.
Last year I tried this project out, and loved it. Now I have a reason to buy candy canes each year.
Valentines day.

This year I tried something different and made an arrangement with floral foam, a stem of baby's breath from the clearance bin and a deli take out box. Very cheap. You can find the recipe here http://familyfun.go.com/recipes/sweetheart-pops-978367/

Finally, these pillow cases for my oldest kid.
The pigs on the top right are so cute.
January during the stake women's conference, I was able to help make over 250 of these. Each would go along with a book, a blanket and stuffed toy. A very personal gift for children that show up at our area's women's shelters. I am so glad that I was asked to participate in this project in a meaningful way from beginning to end. Here is a neat trick to make these just a little faster.  http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/millionpillowcases/video/roll-it-up-video.html
